How to Create a Dial-Up Connection in Windows XP

To Create a Dial-up Connection in Windows XP, click the Network and Internet Connections icon in the Windows Control Panel.

How to Create a Dial-Up Connection in Windows XP
  1. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.

    Note: If you are running Windows XP in classic mode, your will need to select the Start menu, select Settings, then choose Control Panel

  • Click the Switch to Classic View icon.

  • Double-click the Network Connections icon.

  • Click the Create a new connection icon.

  1. Click the Next button.

  2. Select Connect to the Internet.
  3. Click the Next button.

  4. Select Set up my connection manually.
  5. Click the Next button.

  6. Select Connect using a dial-up modem.
  7. Click the Next button.

  8. In the ISP Name field, type a name to identify your connection (ie. GoNuts4Free).
  9. Click the Next button.

  10. In the Phone number field, type your local access number exactly as it needs to be dialed.

  11. Click the Next button.

  12. In the User name field, type: connect104@free
  13. In the Password field, type: 123456
  14. In the Confirm password: 123456
  15. Uncheck the box next to Use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer.
  16. Uncheck the box next to Make this the default Internet connection.
  17. Uncheck the box next to Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection.
  18. Click the Next button.



    Other usernames and passwords you could use are:
    username: connect105@free ~ password: 123456
    username: connect106@free ~ password: 123456
    username: connect107@free ~ password: 123456


  19. Check the box next to Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop if you wish to have a shortcut to the connection on your desktop.
  20. Click the Finish button.

  21. Close all windows.
  22. From the Start menu, choose Connect To.

    Note: If you are running Windows XP in classic mode, from the Start menu, click Settings, and choose Network Connections.

  23. Right-click your dial-up connection, then choose Properties.

  24. Click on the Networking tab.
  25. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the This connection uses the following items list.
  26. Click the Properties button.

  27. Select Use the following DNS server address.
  28. In the Preferred DNS server field, type one of the DNS servers for your domain (e.g. 80.58.0.33).
  29. In the Alternate DNS server field, type one of the DNS servers for your domain (e.g. 80.58.32.97).
  30. Click the OK button.

  31. Click the OK button.

  32. Close all windows.

    You have successfully created a Dial-up Connection in Windows XP.
